According to the BBC, Crystal Palace have now agreed an £8.5million fee with Bayern Munich for Leeds target Chris Richards.
What is the story?
Well, it looks like Dougie Freedman – director of football at Selhurst Park – has negotiated with the German giants.
According to BILD – one of Germany’s biggest news outlets – the south Londoners were in talks to pay £17million for the United States international, who has three years left on his contract at the Allianz Arena.
However, the BBC now claims that Crystal Palace and Bayern Munich have secured a deal worth an initial £8.5million, with a further £2.5million agreed in potential add-ons.
In our opinion, this is a godsend for Patrick Vieira.
Richards will now undergo a medical with Crystal Palace as personal terms have already been agreed before the Eagles enter negotiations with Bayern Munich.
The 22-year-old is said to want to move to SE25, and the deal is now in the final stages.
It will be a blow for Leeds as Jesse Marsch has expressed an interest in bringing his fellow American to Elland Road earlier in the window.
Southampton also wanted to sign the Alabama-born defender, so Ralph Hasenhuttl will surely be upset by this news as well.
Crystal Palace decided to sign Richards after he shone on a season-long loan at TSG Hoffenheim last season, making 23 appearances in all competitions.
Crystal Palace beat Leeds to a bargain
In our opinion, Crystal Palace does a good job here.
£8.5million for a 22-year-old, who has Champions League experience, six caps for the United States and three Bundesliga titles, is a pretty good deal.
Additionally, Richards can play anywhere on the baseline, so Vieira gets a versatile presence with plenty of room for career growth.
All things considered, this is an excellent deal for Crystal Palace.
