City of Nevada Implements Business Development and Sustainability Fee Waiver Program – YubaNet

Nevada City, California – At the Nevada City City Council meeting on October 26, 2022, the City Council approved a Business Development and Sustainability Fee Waiver Program. The program aims to help businesses emerge from the impacts of COVID-19 and seek to maintain and expand their offerings.

The program provides up to $2,000 in municipal fee waivers for businesses in the following fee categories:

  • Business license or home occupancy permit
  • Conditional use license
  • Minor architectural revision: identical change
  • Architectural review: non-residential
  • Examination of signs
  • Encroachment permit: Parklet or Sidewalk Dining
  • Encroachment Fee: Parklet
  • Parking fee instead
  • Seaman’s Lodge rental fees for business use
  • Special event fees for deal-generating events

Applicants must either be a business in good standing with a current Nevada City business license or obtain a first-time business license in Nevada City under the fee waiver program. Other fees, taxes, overdue fees, or fees already paid are not eligible for fee waivers under this program. It is expected that businesses can use fee waivers to:

  • Create an outdoor dining area
  • Install a new sign in a business
  • Open a new business
  • Obtain a conditional use permit for outdoor dining on private property from an existing business
  • Repainting or remodeling an existing business
  • Add to an existing business
  • Set up outdoor sidewalk dining

The application is simple and can be completed entirely online. To begin an application, email your interest to [email protected] and include “Fee Waiver” in the subject line. Businesses can also call 530-265-2496 x119 or visit City Hall for more information. The City asks that this information be shared widely so that all businesses can have the opportunity to participate.
