Niagara Falls is largely located on the Niagara River, which marks the border between New York and Ontario, Canada. This natural wonder is made up of three different waterfalls – American Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Bridal Veil Falls – and is truly a sight to behold. However, as with any tourist attraction, you can arm yourself with a few savings tips before you go to avoid spending money unnecessarily.

If a trip to Niagara Falls is in your future, check out these ways to save that can help you enjoy your trip and keep more money in your wallet.

Off-season visit

“Niagara Falls is a phenomenal attraction that sees millions of visitors every year,” said Larry Snider, vice president of operations at Holiday rentals. “However, such an attraction usually comes with high costs. My best advice is to plan your visit off season – spring, fall and winter. Although temperatures can drop to freezing levels, if you pack your bags warmly and prepare for the weather, you’ll still see an incredible sight.

He added: “The surrounding rates for accommodation are also cheaper during this time.”

Shop packages

“For packages to Niagara Falls, NY, please check the Niagara Falls USA Destination Marketing Organization website first, Niagara Falls United Stateswhere you can find a lot of useful information for planning your trip,” said Dr. Youngsoo Choi, associate professor at Niagara University College of Hospitality, Sport and Tourism Management and Hospitality and Tourism Program Coordinator.

Dr. Choi continued, “Sign up for the newsletter and information about insider tips, events and special promotions. Online travel agencies like Expedia offer flight/hotel deals associated with several area hotels (from select US airports to Buffalo-Niagara International Airport). Please check hotel rates and airfares for your travel/departure-arrival dates and compare with these packages to get the best deal.

Purchase a Niagara USA Discovery Pass

“To save money while exploring multiple areas of interest in the falls, Niagara USA Discovery Pass has been the most popular, including Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds, Aquarium, and Trolley at a discounted rate,” said Dr. Choi. . “Pass sales have been suspended due to COVID-19, but please contact Niagara Falls State Park at 716-278-1796 for any updates on this year’s plan.”

Use the free shuttle

“Visitors can easily travel to various destination sites by taking advantage of the Discover Niagara shuttle,” said Krystina Iacovelli, communications manager for Niagara Falls United States. “The free shuttle service connects visitors to over 30 different attractions and experiences along the Niagara River and Erie Canal. The Discover Niagara Shuttle operates seasonally and begins service Friday, May 27, 2022.”

Dr Choi gave more information on how the shuttle can help you save money: “You can park your car at many stops along the shuttle route that offer free parking and hop on the shuttle which has free wifi service in order to explore various destination sites without any driving hassle.”

Parking at Niagara State Park

“Parking in downtown Niagara Falls is convenient, with multiple parking lots and ramps within walking distance of Niagara Falls State Park,” Iacovelli said. “Parking is also available at Niagara Falls State Park and is the cheapest option.”

Here are the prices:

Batches 1 and 2: May 27, 2022 – October 9, 2022: US$10/day Monday to Thursday | 15 USD/day from Friday to Sunday

Batch 3: Car $10 / RV $20, Friday – Sunday and Holidays | FREE, from Monday (excluding public holidays) to Thursday

“If you plan to exit the park and then return to a parking lot, be sure to take your receipt to show for same-day re-entry. Please note that parking lots inside Niagara Falls State Park are weekends (Friday to Sunday) and holidays fill up quickly,” Iacovelli added.

Save on Gas

“You can fill up on gas at a place like Smokin Joes in Sanborn (2293 Saunders Settlement Rd) where a gallon of gas is 30 to 50 cents cheaper than other gas stations,” Dr. Choi explained. “If paying cash, a 10 cents/gallon discount will also apply.”

Consider Free Attractions

Although you can spend a lot of money on Niagara Falls attractions, viewing the falls is always free. Additionally, the Niagara River Recreational Trail offers approximately 33 miles of paved trails that pass through various historic sites, natural areas, restaurants, and attractions.

Other free attractions include the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, which feature 99 acres of seasonal flowers and lush gardens. The Niagara Falls History Museum is also free on Thursdays after 5 p.m.
