Kountze man charged with murder after missing man found

Investigators say Clayton Carter admitted to murdering Roy Dean Willman and leaving his body in a wooded area.

KOUNTZE, Texas — A Kountze man is facing a murder charge after the body of a missing 64-year-old man was found Thursday night.

Roy Dean Willman’s family reported him missing on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022. Willman was living in an RV located at 2525 North U.S. Highway 69 near Kountze, according to a statement from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.

Willman’s family also reported that his truck and RV were missing from the park.

With the help of Silsbee Police, investigators located the truck and motorhome on Wednesday afternoon. Clayton Carter, 36 of Kountze, was driving them, the statement said.

Silsbee Police arrested Carter on charges unrelated to Willman’s case, however, investigators determined he was a person of interest in the case.

During an interview, Carter said he murdered Willman and left his body in a wooded area off Cravens Camp Road, north of Silsbee, the statement said. Carter led investigators to the area where Willman’s body was.

An autopsy was ordered. Investigators hope he will provide more details about the cause and circumstances of Willman’s death.

No reason is known at this time, according to the statement.

Carter faces multiple charges, including drug possession, evidence tampering, theft, and murder. He is to be formally arraigned on Saturday morning, according to the statement.

MISSING KOUNTZE MAN FOUND MURDERED NEAR SILSBEE

On September 21, 2022, Roy Dean Willman, 64, was reported missing by his family. He lived in an RV Park, located at 2525 North US Hwy 69 near Kountze. His family reported that his truck and trailer were also missing from the park.

Investigators have identified a person of interest in the case and with the assistance of Silsbee Police, the truck and motorhome were located in Silsbee on Wednesday afternoon, driven by Clayton Lewis Carter, 36 of Kountze. Carter was taken into custody on charges unrelated to Silsbee Police, then transferred to Hardin County Jail.

Sheriff’s deputies continued to collect evidence and speak with witnesses. During an interview with investigators, Carter confessed to murdering Willman and leaving his body in a wooded area off Cravens Camp Road, north of Silsbee. He led investigators to the scene and Willman’s body was located. A pending autopsy scheduled for next week is expected to provide more details on the cause and manner of death. No reason is known at this time.

Carter faces multiple charges, including drug possession, evidence tampering, theft, and murder. He is due to be formally arraigned tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
