MacOS Monterey, Apple’s new operating system for Macs, will be here on Monday October 25th. The release date for Apple’s new software (also known as MacOS 12) was announced on Monday after Apple’s October event. (And in case you missed it, here is everything Apple revealed at its iPhone event in September.)

The Monterey OS comes along with upgrades Apple’s MacBook rangeincluding several new M1 chips and a new generation of AirPods. Monterey adds some of the new features found in iOS 15, to like spatial audio in FaceTime and Apple’s focus function.

Here’s how to download macOS Monterey once it’s available to the public. We also have a guide below on how to download the public beta if you can’t wait.

How do I download and install MacOS Monterey once it is generally available?

1. Make sure your Mac is compatible with MacOS Monterey.

2. Back up your Mac, just to be sure. You don’t want to risk losing everything in the upgrade.

3. Go to on your Mac System settings> Software update and find MacOS Big Monterey. click Upgrade now. The download will start immediately, but it may take a while.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed the update and restarted your computer, MacOS Monterey will be running.

How do I download and install the MacOS Monterey Public Beta?

With the Universal Control function of MacOS Monterey you can switch seamlessly between different screens.

If you can’t wait for the final version, here’s how to get the MacOS Monterey Public Beta up and running on your computer. Note that you should never download a beta version to your primary device as it is often buggy. We only recommend this if you have a separate test device available.

1. Back up your Mac, just to be sure.

2. Go to beta.apple.com on your Mac.

3. Sign in with your Apple ID and select Mac OS from the program list.

4th. In the Getting Started section, click Log in Mac.

5. On the next page, click the blue button labeled Download the MacOS Public Beta Access Utility.

6th. Open the downloaded file and follow the instructions.

7th. After installing the utility with the update tool, look in. after a software update System settings and then follow the instructions to download and install it.

After restarting your computer, MacOS Monterey public beta will run.
