Man United agreed £12m Eriksen signing fee

Man United have handed Christian Eriksen a staggering deal worth £200,000 a week plus a signing fee of £12million, sources told Football Insider.

The Premier League giants made the Denmark international, 30, their second summer signing when he joined on a free transfer from Brentford.

But the terms United agreed were generous and sufficient to fend off interest from rivals, which included former club Tottenham as well as 2021-22 employers Brentford.

The two London clubs were both keen to sign Eriksen on a long-term deal and made offers for the player when his six-month contract with Bees expired.

But they couldn’t match the terms of United, who are paying the attacking midfielder £43million over the three years of his deal.

This includes signing fees as well as a salary worth over £10m a year.

Spurs pulled out of the race for Eriksen as they didn’t want to go all the way to United to complete the deal.

So did Brentford, who offered to make the playmaker the highest-paid player in club history.

Eriksen has made an incredible recovery since suffering cardiac arrest on the pitch during a Euro 2020 game last June.

He was forced out of Inter Milan after having a defibrillator installed – which is not allowed in Italy – in the weeks following his collapse.

Since joining United he has started all five of his Premier League appearances and played in midfield in Thursday’s 1-0 win over Leicester City.
