Alex McLeish has suggested Tottenham would ‘bite Newcastle’s hand’ if they offered £30m for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer.
The former Scottish coach, speaking exclusively to Football Insideradmitted he hasn’t been fully sold on the 26-year-old since leaving Southampton.
The Express (April 26) claims Newcastle are lining up a £30million bid for Hojbjerg as Eddie Howe scouts for new midfield additions.
The Denmark international joined Spurs for £15m from Southampton in 2020 and is under contract until 2025.
As revealed by Football Insider in February, Tottenham valued Hojbjerg at around £25million amid interest from former manager Jose Mourinho at Roma.
With a possible double-your-money deal on the cards, McLeish suggested Tottenham would be happy to cash in on the midfielder.
“I think they’re going to bite each other’s handsaid McLeish Football Insiders Russell Edge.
“Hojbjerg has a good pedigree.
“However, I felt at Spurs, sometimes when they were getting bad results, he wasn’t at that very high level.
“There is a place for everyone somewhere.”
Hojbjerg has been a mainstay under the three permanent managers he had during his time at Spurs.
He has made 96 appearances in all competitions, with five goals and nine assists to his name.
The Danish star has missed just three out of a possible 31 games since Antonio Conte took charge.
Hojberg has played the full 90 minutes of Spurs’ last 11 Premier League games.
He’s been linked with the likes of Oliver Skipp and January signing Rodrigo Bentancur in the middle of the park.
In other news, Tottenham have opened talks over a new contract for a first-team defender.
